Kate is a research scientist in Microsoft’s Applied Sciences Group where her interests include semantic scene and video understanding and reasoning, and multimodal models and indexing.
Kate joined Microsoft in 2024 as a part of the Microsoft Spatial AI Lab Zurich, working on developing machine-learning pipelines that integrate language, vision, and spatial features enabling advanced scene comprehension.
Before joining Microsoft, she worked on using machine learning, most notably graph neural networks, to enhance particle collision reconstructions at the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector at CERN.
Kate earned her degree in cybernetics and robotics from the Czech Technical University in Prague, where she specialized in machine learning and computer vision, with a particular focus on image-retrieval systems.
Outside of work Kate enjoys hiking, via ferratas, archery, and swimming. She also has a passion for building small robotics projects, especially those aimed at assistive technologies.
