Microsoft Environmental and Sustainability Data Collection Support

This site contains information about the Microsoft Hardware Environmental and Sustainability Data Collection process. Suppliers can access comprehensive information on Microsoft's hardware material requirements, find resources on how to respond to Full Material Declaration (FMD) data requests, and obtain Helpdesk support for any assistance needed.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to develop sustainable products and safeguard human life, property, and the environment. By integrating robust environmental principles into all aspects of our supply chain and manufacturing operations. Microsoft seeks to empower every individual and organization on the planet to achieve more, all while preserving our natural world.

A key element of our sustainability efforts is the comprehensive collection and analysis of Full Material Declaration (FMD) data from our suppliers. This program not only ensures product compliance with worldwide regulations but also enhances our ability to innovate and evaluate the environmental impact of our hardware products, driving us towards a more sustainable future.

Microsoft Specifications and requirements

Microsoft Hardware Specifications can be downloaded here.  The bundle includes common specifications, including the following which may be relevant to you.

H00594 Restricted Substance Specification for Microsoft Hardware – Outlines the prohibited, restricted and reportable substances in the manufacturing of Microsoft products. This specification ensures compliance with global environmental and safety regulations, aiming to minimize the impact of harmful substances on human health and the environment.

It details the protocols and requirements for maintaining, updating, and managing documentation related to Microsoft hardware products, ensuring that all records comply with company standards and global regulations.

Data Collection Materials

Microsoft Compliance Data Collection (MSCDC) forms and guidance documents can be downloaded here.  This bundle includes the templates necessary for submission.

Microsoft Compliance Data Collection (MSCDC) Hardware Template – The MSCDC template is based on the IPC 1752 Class A and D schema and is used to collect and report data on the material composition and production processes of hardware components. This data includes material and substance weight, REACH and SCIP information, and recycled content of the hardware. The template is designed to be comprehensive and user-friendly, allowing suppliers to provide all necessary information in a standardized format.

Microsoft Compliance Data Collection (MSCDC) Declaration of Conformance
– The MSCDC Class A Template is based on the IPC 1752 Class A and C schema and allows suppliers to submit statements of conformance and relative material information on ROHS, REACH and PFAS statements.

MSCDC Packaging Template
– Similar to the Hardware template, MSCDC Packaging allows the supplier to submit material data, as well as information on recycled content, non-wood bio-based content, and FSC Certifications.
