Learn new photography skills

If you’re looking to learn photography skills, you’re going to love what artificial intelligence (AI) can do for you. AI is trained on a wealth of historical data, which includes a vast range of photography and relevant technical resources. It can probe the internet for guides and tips and sum them up for you. You might use AI for help learning about unfamiliar compositions and techniques. If you’re determined to sharpen your skills, ask AI to help develop a mini curriculum with book suggestions, online courses, and more.

For example, try a prompt like, “Create a beginner photography learning list to further my skills.”

Find optimal photo shooting times

Is it golden hour yet? Consider opening your blinds or simply ask AI. Use its predictive analysis capabilities to identify the best time of the day for taking photos based on your photographic vision (the idea you want to capture).

For example, you can ask, “What’s the ideal time for natural lighting for an outdoor photoshoot in [location] during mid-July?”

Ask for insights and feedback

Some generative AI assistants can help analyze images. For example, with Copilot, you can upload your photos, receive feedback, and talk about incorporating strategies. Ask it to evaluate aspects of your work like technique (saturation, exposure, sharpness), analyze how original your photography is, and suggest areas for improvement. You can even ask AI to interpret the photo in terms of context.

For example, if you want help with composition, upload your photo and ask, “What composition would work best for the subject and elements in my photo?”

Edit and enhance your photos

Photography editing technology has accelerated thanks the rise of AI photo editing tools and apps, which can help cut down time-consuming edits that demand lots of attention to detail. For example, Designer can remove unwanted items from photos seamlessly and contextually add in missing details using the generative Fill tool. You can also experiment with AI filters and backgrounds to accessorize your photos further.

Use AI to guide real work

If there’s an image you’re chasing in your mind, let AI make it happen by seeking out suggestions to capture your shot. Let’s say you want to shoot a picture of the sunset over Lake Michigan during the summertime. Prompt AI somewhere along the lines of, “What photography techniques should I use to capture a great photo of the midwestern sunset over Lake Michigan?” AI can offer suggestions such as camera settings, filters and accessories, lighting, good locations, and more—all of which you can incorporate into your real-life shots.
